2013 and 2014 will see the global Laureus World Sports Awards hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The decision was praised by the Brazilian public, and the city is viewed as a natural place to hold a sport oriented event. It is expected to bring great pride and honor to Brazilian athletes and proceeds will directly benefit the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

Rio de Janeiro will host the 2013 and 2014 global Laureus World Sports Awards ceremonies. The Awards, also known as the “Oscar for Sports,” is held annually in different countries, and celebrates the most remarkable men and women from the world of sports along with their achievements from the previous year.

As the birthplace of sports and culture in Brazil, Rio is the ideal host city. Rio’s energy and natural beauty have become iconic representations of the country to the rest of the world. The beaches, the Sambadrome and Maracanã will provide a backdrop for the ceremony.
