Tourist Tax Implemented In Barcelona

A new "Tourist Tax" has been implemented in Barcelona and Catalonia which will be an additional charge when renting accommodations for the first 7 days of their rent. The tax its self is a reasonably small sum of 0.72€ per person per night which is to draw income from the tourism city without deterring would be tourists.

Millions of tourists visit the beautiful city of Barcelona every year in search of fantastic food, incredible art and some of the best nightlife in Europe. So it may not come as a surprise that the Catalan government has decided to follow in Rome’s footsteps and implement a new tourist tax. The tax came into force on 1 November 2012, meaning all those renting accommodation in Catalonia, from apartments to hotels to campervans, would need to pay a small fee.
