Set to open March 22nd of next year, Copenhagen has high expectations for The Blue Planet aquarium with at least 700,000 expected visitors annually. Designed by 3XN as a technological and architectural marvel covering over 10,000 square meters of space, officials hope the new aquarium will provide a boost to the city's already flourishing tourism industry.
Designed by Copenhagen-based architect firm 3XN, The Blue Planet aquarium will open on March 22, 2013 and, with an anticipated 700,000 visitors a year, it is expected to become one of Denmark’s five most popular tourist attractions.
3XN’s plans for the building were inspired by the shape of moving water and the aquarium’s swirling, whirlpool-like roof will be best appreciated by tourists arriving into Copenhagen by air. The building is located close to Kastrup Havn, close to Copenhagen Airport and near the centre of the city.
