Hawaiian Airlines to Start Direct Flights to Taipei

Posted: Dec. 5th, 2012  |  By Michael Pearse

Travelers to Taipei will be excited for Hawaiian Airlines recent announcement: starting in July 2013, direct flights between Honolulu and the bustling island capitol will begin, and is slated as a move that is expected to cut costs and simplify travel for tourists both from the U.S. and Taiwan. With Taipei's tourist industry booming, the move is timed perfectly for both regions.

Hawaiian Airlines said Monday it will launch direct flights between Taipei and Honolulu in July 2013 to tap Taiwan's tourism market in light of the United States' extending its visa waiver program to cover Taiwanese nationals.

"We have long known that there is demand for a Hawaii vacation in Taiwan, but visits have been impeded by the cost, complexity and time it has taken its citizens to apply for a U.S. visitor visa," said Mark Dunkerley, the airline's president and CEO.
