Abu Dhabi has announced their plan to standardize their entire road system under one engineering standard to create a more effective road system for motorists in Abu Dhabi and the rest of the emirate. The plans are to be unified under the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport.

Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport (DoT) has announced plans to unify road engineering standards in the emirate, as part of its efforts to improve safety and maximise the capacity of the emirate road network, Wam has reported. This would be achieved through adopting the best international practices for design, construction, operation, maintenance and management, of roads and bridges projects in the emirate. The Unifying and Standardising of Road Engineering Practices project is carried out by the DoT in coordination with several strategic partners from the government of Abu Dhabi such as the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, the Department of Municipal Affairs, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Ain Municipality and the Western Region Municipality.
