Beijing Poker Club Plays Dangerous Game

Many a poker club in Beijing have been axed by local ordinances banning gambling in the city, but the Goldfish Club is attempting to survive where others have not despite their main draw – poker – being notoriously associated with gambling and illicit activity. The club is meant as a place for the well-to-do of the social scene to relax and interact, but not gamble.

The first rule of Beijing’s newest poker club is: Don’t talk about the poker club. That’s because the Goldfish Club, a members-only establishment due to open next month, wants to avoid any confusion about what’s on offer inside its doors. It doesn’t want to go the way of other poker venues in Beijing and other cities that have been shut down by Chinese authorities for illegal gambling.
