WWII Memorial

The National World War II Memorial is dedicated to the Americans who served in the armed forces during the second World War. The memorial is part of the National Mall, and consists of 56 pillars, 2 arches, a plaza and fountain.

On the west side of the memorial is the Freedom Wall. This partition features over 4,000 stars, each represented 100 of the servicemen and women who lost their lives in the war. Each pillar represents a U.S. state or territory, and the arches symbolize each of the oceans over which Americans fought: The Atlantic and Pacific.
