Washington Things To Do: Union Station opened in 1907 as the gateway to Washington, D.C. Even though train travel has slid down the popularity scale, the station still attracts 32 million visitors per year to its variety of dining, shopping, exhibits, events, and tours.

The Classical architecture of the station makes for a grand entrance through any doorway. Outside are several well-known statues, and inside trains still run to major cities along the Eastern seaboard.
