Viacom Stock Symbol Remains Mysterious With Switch To o Switch Listing to Nasdaq

Viacom (VIA, VIAb) said today it will transfer its stock exchange listing to NASDAQ OMX's Nasdaq Global Select Market beginning December 1.

The company said it made the decision to switch to the Nasdaq from NYSE Euronext (nyse: NYX - news - people )'s New York Stock Exchange because it will be more cost effective, while still providing shareholders with strong execution and liquidity.

Viacom (nyse: VIA - news - people )'s Class A common stock will trade under the symbol VIA, while its Class B shares will trade under the symbol VIAB.

Rival Walt Disney (nyse: DIS - news - people ) is getting a boost in today's trade after it reported a 30% increase in earnings late yesterday, to $1.1 billion, or $0.58 per share.

Adjusted earnings of $0.59 per share beat analyst estimates.

Revenue rose 7%, to $10.4 billion, meeting expectations.
