The most famous celebration in all of the south, Mardi Gras takes over the streets of the French Quarter once a year for a day of unabashed indulgence. This French holiday is traditionally observed as the last time to eat and drink before the Lenten season.

While the younger crowds roam the streets in the French Quarter, the Uptown area provides plenty of celebrations geared more toward families because Bourbon Street is no place for kids.
