The opulent Philippe Starck-designed SLS Las Vegas resort, slated to open in 2014, involves a lot of milestones: Starck’s first Las Vegas resort and his largest hospitality project to date, it will be home to seven separate Fred Segal stores, marking the first time a single luxury retailer has occupied all the retail space in a property of this size.

The project from global luxury hospitality, development and real estate brand sbe, which recently secured $300 million in funding for it, will be the fourth SLS hotel following Beverly Hills, South Beach and a New York City location opening in 2013.

James Beard award-winning Chef José Andrés will once again operate the hotel’s premier restaurant, continuing his partnership with Sam Nazarian, sbe’s founder, chairman and CEO. Upon completion, the SLS Las Vegas will boast more than 1,600 stylish guest rooms and suites, a full-fledged casino and an assortment of sbe’s other renowned restaurant and nightlife brands such as Katsuya (also designed by Starck), Umami and a Hyde nightclub.

The groundbreaking Fred Segal stores will be the resort’s only retail experiences occupying a total of 10,000 square feet of space and will offer a broad range of merchandise including women’s and men’s apparel, swimwear, jewelry, cosmetics and beauty products, books, art, accessories, a “highly-curated” denim bar and of course a number of Fred Segal-branded items.

Fred Segal has been a legendary Los Angeles style icon since its namesake founder opened the world’s first jeans-only store in 1960, which has today grown into a globally-recognized brand with a large celebrity clientele and two L.A. locations. The SLS Las Vegas deal marks the first major expansion for Fred Segal, which was acquired by multi-platform luxury and design brand building firm Sandow earlier this year. Gensler, an acclaimed global design, planning and strategic consulting firm will serve as the architect/design firm of record for both the SLS Las Vegas and the on-site Fred Segal boutiques.
