After having spent years without any construction being done on the semi-built structure at 127 W. Huron in Chicago, new owners are finally breathing life into the operation and plan to have the hotel open sometime in 2013. The “mummified” building has been under wraps for four years until last week when the 16-story building was finally re-introduced to the world. The Oxford Capital Group has big plans for the sleeping giant, hoping to make it into a spacious, luxury hotel.
Developers are planning to transform the space into a modern destination, with design elements reminiscent of lines and shapes found in Cubism and will be complete with a little over 200 rooms. With a rooftop lounge and a gourmet restaurant in the works, the Godfrey Hotel Chicago is sure to deliver on developer’s promise of being a distinctive downtown destination.
