When members of Guardians of Rescue arrived to help out with a horrific dog hoarding case in rural Mississippi, they were horrified at what they were seeing. Well over 200 dogs were left to fend for themselves on the property, with many of them sickly, injured, malnourished, and all of them in need of proper care. They immediately went to work helping the animals and are pleading with animal lovers everywhere to help support their rescue efforts at the scene.

“This is a horrible case that is absolutely heartbreaking,” said Kelly Basham, critical incident director for Guardians of Rescue. “We are on the scene and will be for a week, as we try to sort this out and get all of the animals the care they need. It’s a situation that no animal should ever have to live in, and we want them out as quickly as possible.”

The situation was discovered in Plantersville, Mississippi, by the North Mississippi Animal Care & Control Association. They immediately knew the animals were in grave danger and needed immediate rescue, so they reached out to Guardians for Rescue for assistance. The team at Guardians of Rescue jumped into action to get the dogs the help they needed and will be at the property for a week as they round up all the dogs, provide the veterinary care they need, and find foster placements for them.

With the large number of dogs at the property, ranging from 5 weeks to 8 years old, and numerous breeds, it is evident that it is not a puppy mill but more likely a situation of hoarding. Over the course of years, the dogs continued to breed, and now the situation is out of hand. The dogs are not being properly cared for or fed, and they have no shelter from the elements. Many of them are sick, have open rashes and wounds, and have other issues that need to be medically cared for. It’s currently an active investigation scene, as the group works to help the animals, and the owner’s name has not yet been disclosed.

“These dogs are in such bad shape that it’s a difficult scene to witness,” added Basham, “But we are glad that we are able to be here and provide them with the help they need. We will do everything it takes to help these dogs. We would love people to support the effort to help ensure their rescue, safety, and proper placement.”
