Sitting on the eastern end of Golden Gate Park right next to Haight-Ashbury is the Conservatory of Flowers. The building itself is a magnificent Victorian greenhouse with a central dome that reaches a height of 60 feet above the surrounding Conservatory Valley. Public gardens make a great place to spend a sunny day in the city.
Built in the late 19th Century, the Conservatory is home to about 1,700 species of plants, including its highly-regarded collection of high-altitude orchids. It is also one of the few gardens to successfully grow the mystical Corpse Flower
