Movie stars are glamorous, magnificent specimens of the human race and most of us envy them and their luxurious lifestyle. Given the fact that their job revolves around staying beautiful, in shape and healthy they are a good source of information when it comes to topics such as longevity and aesthetics. Now, not all movie stars look that great – some have let themselves go or taken up drugs – but a great number of them manage to stay in top shape and look great well into their twilight years.

Of course, they also have such things as plastic surgeons, steroids, access to top medical professionals and fitness trainers, but there are still some things that an average person can emulate to get fairly good results. Here are the top five things that will help you look like a million bucks and stay strong and vibrant even in old age.  

Personal hygiene is a priority for a celebrity who is always in the spotlight

If your messy hair or dirty face could make the news, you would be very careful about how you present yourself to the world. Having good personal hygiene means cultivating grooming habits and being aware of how your body looks. You can significantly improve your overall image with just some simple grooming tips such as:

Cut your hair once a month if you are a guy

Find the right shampoo and conditioner combo if you have long hair

Shave regularly or trim your facial hair

Wash your face every morning and evening and use a moisturizer

Apply makeup strategically and don’t overdo it

Bathe every day and use a good antiperspirant

Trim your nails regularly

Apply hand cream to keep the hands soft

Keep your clothes clean and ironed

Staying clean also means you’ll have less of a chance to get sick.

Most movie stars are involved in some form of fitness and watch what they eat

You may not have the time, resources or motivation to get incredibly big and lean – or slim and sculpted if you are a woman – in a short period of time, but everyone can get in very good shape within a year or two if you do some exercise and watch what you eat. If you want to slim down hit the gym a few times a week, do some running or swimming and cut some of that junk food from your diet. If you want to get bigger do some training, eat a bit more food than you are used to, with emphasis on lean protein sources and healthy carb sources, and don’t do too much cardio other than walking for a couple of hours a day.

Don’t change your calories for more than about 500 up or down depending on your goals. Basically any type of sport, physical activity or workout regime will do as long as you stick to it and do it several times a week. This will also help get rid of stress and pent up anger, which are detrimental to your health.  

They do yoga to help keep their body and mind feeling fresh

Yoga or a similar activity can be highly beneficial for a number of reasons. Limbering up means you are less likely to suffer injuries such as sprains or have aching joints, as well as being able to move more freely. It also helps your muscles recover from hard workouts, and the meditation is an excellent way to calm your nerves and let your mind relax. The breathing exercises alone can help keep your blood pressure and heart rate in check during stressful times.

They get a lot of dental work done to achieve those perfect smiles

Movie stars enjoy flashing their big, beautiful smiles both on and off camera, and it is a big part of their sexy look. While some people will have better genetics than others and regular oral hygiene can keep your teeth healthy, you still have to go to the dentist every now and then to make sure everything is perfect. Even actors have problems with impacted wisdom teeth, uneven teeth or tooth decay.

The difference is that they aren’t afraid to go to the dentist and get these problems sorted out early, before they become a real problem that costs tons of money. Even if you didn’t fix a problem in the early stages and a surgical procedure is required, modern sedatives make dental procedures a painless experience, so there is nothing to worry about. Investing in your teeth, particularly early on before there are serious problems, is a great choice and will save you a lot of hassle later in life.   

They get regular medical checkups

Since they need to be in good shape to be able to perform and earn money, actors will frequently visit their doctor just to make sure their blood work is good and that everything is fine. It doesn’t cost a fortune to get some blood work done once a year, and it is a good idea to go to a hospital if you have any sort of persistent symptoms, even if they are embarrassing or don’t seem like much of a problem at first. Things like colonoscopies, breast exams or getting tested for STD’s seem a bit scary to a lot of people, but they are necessary.

As you can see, it’s not all about wealth and better opportunities, some of the “secrets” those beautiful, youthful and energetic movie stars use to stay in great shape well into their 50’s and 60’s actually boil down to some hard work and good habits. I think we can all manage to follow some of these examples to a certain extent in our own lives.
