Back to the Future: Catwalk Shoe Trends for SS13

Christian Louboutin is famously quoted as having said, ‘A shoe has so much more to offer than just to walk’. Nothing could be more apt when describing the shoes that are currently making their way down the Spring / Summer catwalks.

Architecture is a big theme this season, sending heel heights soaring and sculpting shoes into sinuous works of art featuring ornate detailing, transparent plastics and futuristic contouring. Flats have also been spotted in collections belonging to Dolce & Gabbana and Victoria Beckham, however the true wow factor belongs to the skyscraping heels of Fendi, Rodarte and Louboutin himself.

Metal and Moschino take Centre Stage

Luxury is now defined by metal; silver foil and jewel encrusted sandals took centre stage at Fashion week courtesy of Moschino and Kirkwood. Heels are high and chunky, unless they have been coaxed into unconventional shapes in which case eye-watering is the by-word of the hour. Pointed toes are back, as are prints and reptile designs, and nautical themes and wedges still remain go-to styles for any occasion.

Colours remain much the same for the SS13 season, with berry reds and vibrant purples cresting the wave of nudes, emerald green and sheer material. Added to the line-up is Monaco blue, this season’s go-to colour for designers wanting to add depth to what is shaping up to be a season marked by soaring imaginations.

Find the Perfect Fit

It’s easy to find catwalk-inspired shoes on the high street; most of the major fashion retailers release new lines every season to keep up with the ever changing fashion of luxury shoe fashion. Most are available in a selection of sizes, and ladies who have found they require a slightly larger shoe size are able to visit reputable stockists like Katie Long Shoes to find catwalk inspired shoes in sizes 8 and up.
