Just outside the vibrant pulse of Marrakech, beyond the winding alleyways of the Medina and the sensory overload of the souks, lies a serene, cinematic escape that feels like a world entirely its own, the Selman Marrakech. Equal parts luxury resort and Arabian equestrian dreamscape, Selman is not simply a place to stay, but a destination in itself… a tranquil oasis that also serves as an ideal base for exploring the wider beauty of Marrakech’s surroundings, from the foothills of the Atlas Mountains to the local Berber villages, and beyond.

From the moment you arrive on-site, the Selman Marrakech’s sense of scale, elegance, and calm is immediately striking. The grounds are immaculately maintained, framed by palm-lined pathways, reflecting pools, and the property’s iconic stables, home to some of the most magnificent Arabian horses in the region. Suites are expansive and thoughtfully designed, blending Moroccan craftsmanship with modern luxury, offering a sense of privacy and space that feels especially restorative after the energy of the city or a long-haul flight.

One of the most unforgettable experiences during our stay was the early morning hot air balloon ride arranged seamlessly through the hotel’s concierge and done through Ciel d’Afrique (with luxury pickup and drop off flawlessly arranged, along with a beautiful array of breakfast treats served while in the VIP hot air balloon which was truly bespoke). Floating silently over the desert at sunrise, watching the landscape glow in soft gold and pink tones, felt like one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that stays with you forever. A core memory embedded deeply. The concierge team also organized a deeply meaningful Berber village tour, offering an authentic and respectful glimpse into rural life beyond Marrakech, an experience that added real depth to our journey.

Dining at Selman Marrakech is equally memorable and beautifully layered throughout the day. Mornings by the stables are something truly special, with an abundant breakfast spread served alongside soft, atmospheric music that sets the tone for a slow and luxurious start to the day. We are still talking about the musician who performed live and even composed little melodies inspired by our children (“Sienna, mon ami… Slade, mon ami”), an incredibly personal touch that made the experience feel unforgettable (and tunes we’ll be singing for many years to come).

Lunch by the pool is relaxed and sun-drenched, with impeccable service and unexpectedly excellent details, most notably, the French fries, which somehow became a daily obsession. As the day unfolds, the energy shifts into more elevated evening dining, where the property’s signature restaurant ASSYL comes alive with theatricality and spectacle. The horse and fire show, accompanied by belly dancers and live traditional music, is nothing short of mesmerizing… an immersive celebration of Moroccan artistry and hospitality that feels both grand and deeply rooted in culture.

Beyond dining and design, Selman Marrakech also excels in family-friendly luxury. The kids club is exceptional, thoughtfully programmed, engaging, and genuinely fun, making it one of the rare luxury properties where both adults and children feel equally considered (not to mention the endless pony rides, which quickly became a daily highlight for the kids).

The spa at Selman is a true sanctuary within a sanctuary. Tucked away from the main energy of the property, it unfolds as a serene, design-forward escape centered around two stunning back pools that feel almost meditative in their calmness and symmetry. These pools alone create a sense of arrival… quiet, elegant, and deeply restorative. Treatments are rooted in both Moroccan tradition and modern wellness techniques, offering everything from invigorating massages to deeply soothing rituals that feel tailor-made for recovery after early mornings hot air ballooning, strenuous hikes through the mountains or full days exploring the Medina and beyond. There’s an immediate sense of stillness here, where time slows down and the outside world feels completely distant.

Ultimately, the Selman Marrakech strikes a rare balance: it is both a peaceful retreat and a gateway to adventure. Whether used as a base for exploring the surrounding region or as a standalone escape to unwind and reset, it offers a version of Marrakech that feels spacious, serene, and deeply luxurious. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t just complement a trip… it elevates it entirely.
