Hey Harley, sorry for the delay here, but I wanted to make sure I didn't lead you astray so I checked with our fashion department. The consensus seems to be that its more about the fabric than the color. Don't wear a lightweight in white, but you can wear a heavy wool in white during the winter months. A lot of people we asked also said that a slight off-white is a good alternative. For the most part, the rule is antiquated, and once you leave port all rules are off anyways so suit up those whites and lace up your Sperrys!

Hey Lydia, San Fran is totally the place to be for eco-friendly hotels. The Orchard and Good Hotel are both 100% green hotels, and while theyre both pretty nice I wouldnt say that they're luxurious. Your best bet to split the difference would be the Sir Francis Drake. As a Kimpton Hotel they've been consistently commended for their commitment to conservation, and its undoubtedly one of the city's finest hotels.
As a bonus, they'll give you a $10 credit for the bar or bistro when you opt in to their Choose to Conserve program. Hope this helps, let me know if you need any other suggestions!
