Retreat to Komaneka at Bisma in Bali

Beautiful Pools

Komaneka at Bisma

Komaneka at Bisma Resort in Ubud, Bali is nestled in the Campuhan river valley with breathtaking scenic views, sloping rice fields and coconut groves nearby.

From the minute we entered Komaneka at Bisma to the minute we left, it was an unforgettable stay. This luxurious resort is designed as a sophisticated and contemporary lifestyle destination that makes you feel at home.

Checking in to Komaneka

We arrived on an early Thursday afternoon and were greeted by concierge boys dressed in neatly pressed white uniforms. They kindly escorted us to the hotel lobby featuring plush sofas, huge chandeliers and carved-wood furniture all in an open airy space. Within a minute our refreshing welcome drinks and hot towels were ready. Enjoying my juice, I walked across the lobby to have a sneak peak at the view from the 4th floor where the lobby is located. It was breathtaking: sloping rice fields, coconut trees and a turquoise infinity pool nicely framed by white sunbeds and umbrellas.

Bisma Suite Room

Our Bisma Suite was located on the 4th floor. As I opened the door to our home for the next night, I felt like jumping from happiness. We walked into our spacious living room featuring a comfortable white sofa decorated with embroided cushions, huge Apple TV with a great selection of music and films available and a minibar. The living room was connected to the bedroom with an option to pull the see-through drapes in between the rooms. The bedroom was very spacious and full of natural light coming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The king size bed was very comfortable and we had a blissful nights' sleep.

The whole suite opened up to a huge balcony with a dining table for two and two sunbeds decorated with fragrant frangipani blossoms. My favourites. The view of the rice fields from the balcony was breathtaking. There were travel and fashion magazines as well as coffee table books about Bali available to read at leisurly manner. The bathroom area was divided from the bedroom by glass windows with light wooden shutters, providing a twin vanity washbasin, bathtub, rain shower as well as a rest room with eco-washer facilities. There was a storage room for all the luggage where you could also find a beach basket and white soft cotton robes as well as little necessities such as mosquito repellent.

Intimate touches

During the last few years, we have stayed at many beautiful resorts around Asia and each of them surprised us differently. However, what stood out about Komaneka at Bisma and has made it my favourite hotel so far were the lovely personal touches, which made you feel special yet at home. We loved the little surprise note left on the bed for us that read: "No happy time is really gone, if it leaves a special memory".

Other things included matching sun hats for him and her, fruit baskets, homemade cookies, frangipani heart decorations on the bed, handmade toiletries, soups and lotions, little silver-coloured boxes filled with tiny souvenirs to take home, and even the hotels' own cotton pyjamas available for him and her and nicely put on the bed after their turnaround service. To top this off, the lovely bubble bath with rose petals and bath salts in a candle lit bathroom won me over.

Hotel grounds and facilities

I could have easily just spent my day in the room. But the stunning hotel surroundings on a sunny afternoon were too tempting to miss. So we grabbed our sun hats and headed off to the poolside. After we laid our soft white towels and sprayed Komaneka’s very own sun protector, we decided to go for a little wander around the hotel grounds before dipping into the pool.

We walked along the hotels' jogging path surrounded by palm trees, twisting through the rice terraces, checked out the hotel's wedding chapel and explored the spa facilities which featured amazing views of the river. The hotel also offers a number of activities, such as a free Neka museum visit, cycling, tree top picnic, yoga classes, Balinese dance lessons, cooking lessons, carving lessons and many more. After a lovely afternoon's wander, we got back to the pool and enjoyed soaking for a good few hours.

Wining and dining

After a relaxing afternoon lazying by the refreshing infinity pool, we dressed up and headed off to the hotel restaurant. We were early enough to get a table on the deck to enjoy an unblocked view of the sunset whilst indulging in Komaneka’s signature cocktails and exquisite dinner.

We tried the beef rendang and mango chicken salad, where yet again the perfectionism and attention to detail made the meals not only incredibly delicious but also a candy for the eye. Our breakfast was also served in the same restaurant (with an option to have it in the room). The breakfast was a la carte, which was a nice change from buffet breakfasts. The choices ranged from fresh pastries and tropical fruits to American breakfast of bacon, eggs and sausages and local breakfasts complemented by fresh juices and coffees.

My recommendation

In just one day, Komaneka at Bisma became my favourite hotel in Asia. Its great location, stunning surroundings, exceptional services and perfectionism in little details made us feel at home. This place is great for couples, honeymooners and families alike. We are definitely coming back!
