Waltzing the Danube in Grand Style on Uniworld River Princess

Setting off from Prague and heading toward Budapest, Uniworld’s European itinerary is a great way to see the continent via the intimate 130-passenger River Princess. If you're a suite guest, you're treated to even more exclusive experience with the help of a personal butler. From the moment they arrive—dressed in tails and white gloves—they'll escort you to your suite and you'll know you are in for the royal treatment.

Shandor, our butler and a native of Hungary, proudly familiarized us with our suite which comes with premium spirits, crystal stemware, a fully stocked mini bar, Nespresso coffee machine, water selections including Voss, Valrhona Chocolates, Hermès and L’Occitane bath amenities and two spacious walk in closets. In addition to the cabin’s luxury appointments, our suite came with complimentary laundry, dry cleaning, shoe shine and unpacking services. The ship’s amenities include a masseuse, fitness area and a well-being coach, who schedules daily activities, including yoga, stretch classes and Nordic walks to keep guests active.

The décor on each Uniworld ship is unique and designed by the owner, Beatrice Tollman and her team. River Princess’ look combines bold black and white patterns with contemporary art, mirrors and comfortable bar and lounging areas that create a chic, sophisticated and inviting ambience. Also, the complimentary Wi-Fi worked better than on most ships, and the 24-hour coffee area was always a hub of activity. In the dining room, passengers can enjoy cuisines of the region such as Wiener Schnitzel and Sacher-Torte and other local specialties. The all-inclusive beverage list includes premium offerings such as Grey Goose Vodka, French Champagnes, and single-malt Scotches.

Uniworld not only offers the typical city tours in every port, but also Go Active Programs and exclusive tours. In Vienna, we were offered an exclusive Mozart and Strauss concert in the Abby at Klosterneuburg. Travelers can also take an in depth City of Arts Tour that includes access to museums with knowledgeable art historian guides. In Budapest, the exclusive “Do as the Locals Do” walking tour gives you an intimate view of life from a resident’s perspective. They’ll also happily share their most favorite haunts in the city. The Go Active Program includes curated bicycle rides guided by a specialized tour company that partners with the brand.

Nightly entertainment is provided by the onboard pianist and several local groups who come onboard when docked. One of the cruise’s highlights, is an evening with Elisabeth von Trapp, singing songs of her legendary family’s WWII stories. Her charm, talent and warmth makes for a magical evening. She was the cherry on top of our already great trip.
