Over the years, I have gravitated towards oversized watches. To me, they make a bold statement, and the scale gives designers a larger scope to experiment. However, as I discovered, there are significant limitations to formal attire. For example, when I attended gala events wearing a black dinner suit, all of my timepieces were unsuitable. Basically, I couldn’t fasten my shirt with cufflinks, and there was a huge protrusion through the sleeve. This event inspired me to write a book entitled ‘Timeless Classics’, which is a compendium of beautiful dress watches. Certainly, if I wrote a second edition, the SEVENFRIDAY PS2/03 “BC” would be a worthy inclusion.

I’ve been a huge admirer of SEVENFRIDAY and what co-owner Dan Niederer has achieved. It’s really tough to launch a successful watch brand, never mind make it sustainable for a prolonged period. The secret ingredient here has been exceptional design and embracing new technology. For example, the innovative FreeDB incorporates 3D printed Polyamide (PA11 & PA12) used in the medical, aerospace and automotive sectors. Consumers have several series to choose from, each with their own unique identity. However, masterfully, the brand DNA has been maintained throughout.

For the PS2/03 “BC” SEVENFRIDAY has drawn inspiration from the Tuxedo and has created a modern dress watch. The timepiece features a sensational jet black high-tech ceramic animation ring. This material has a mirror-like gloss appearance that is scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic. Other stylish details include a multi-layered skeletonised dial centred around an exposed balance wheel. In my opinion, this gives the timepiece a luxurious haute hollegerie aesthetic. Dimensionally, the PS2/03 “BC” is well proportioned and has a 316L stainless steel case measuring 47.6mm x 47mm x 14.2mm. Due to the ergonomic cushion shape design, I found this watch exceptionally comfortable to wear.

At the heart of the watch, there is a Japanese-made self-winding movement. The Calibre Miyota 82S5 comprises 21 jewels and oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. SEVENFRIDAY opted to use this mechanism instead of Swiss alternatives because it was conducive to the brand’s designs. Now, many other watch companies use the Miyota movement, including MB&F in their stylish M.A.D. 1 S. Functionally, the PS2/03 “BC” features hours, minutes and seconds. The watch also has a power reserve of 42 hours and is water resistant to a depth of 30 meters. As a perfect finale, the timepiece is presented on a high-quality black leather strap.

On the reverse of the watch is an NFC Chip for authentication, which gives buyers an added layer of security. For more information about the PS2/03 “BC” follow this link
