Golden Globe Awards 2014: The Best Fashion of the Red Carpet

Golden Globes Fashion 2014

While the guys were busy watching the playoffs (or whatever football game it was that seemed to capture their attention) we were gearing up for the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards. There were pre-shows, interviews, awkward hot-or-not moments that we just couldn’t stop watching—and we loved every minute of it. There’s nothing better than getting to see our favorite celebrities dolled up and spending the evening partying with one another. The hottest actors and actresses stepped out with some of the most beautiful gowns, suits and diamonds that we’ve seen at an award show. Here we take a look at the best fashion of the night because—while we wish we’d been there to become besties with Jennifer Lawrence or hit on Bradley Cooper—we’ll take what we can get.

Red was clearly the name of the game here as several celebs including Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams and Emma Watson all stepped out wearing the bright crimson shade. Nyong’o wore a Ralph Lauren dress with Fred Leighton yellow gold diamond studs, vintage gold and diamond cocktail rings, a vintage yellow gold and diamond pinky ring, as well as a solid rose gold clutch from Monica Rich Kosann. Hair styled by Larry Sims.

Metallics and shimmer were another big trend just as they should be on one of the brightest nights in show business. Looking as stunning as a classic Hollywood starlet, Mila Kunis wore a Gucci Premiere dress as well as Gemfields emerald stud earrings and bangle by Marina B.

Even the men looked dressed to the nines paired with their wives—like cute couple Matt Damon and Luciana Bozán Barroso—and we’re totally not even a tiny, little-teensy-bit jealous. Damon wore a Clavin Klein suit with Piaget watch, while Barroso donned a Naeem Khan gown.

Showing off her baby bump, presenter Olivia Wilde strolled down the red carpet before revealing her due date (May 4 for those keeping track) to the press. Keeping up with the glittery trend, Wilde wore a green Gucci dress, a Forevermark diamond and pave marquise shaped ring, cushion shaped double drop earrings, and diamond line bracelet, as well as a Rodo clutch and Charlotte Olympia heels.

Actress Amy Adams may have won herself a Golden Globe, but to us she was a winner before the show even began. Adams wore a Valentino Haute Couture silk chiffon gown with a ruby bodice and deep décolleté from the Shanghai collection, a Lorraine Schwartz yellow gold diamond pendant, rose cut diamond ring, white diamond pave ruby ring, and asscher cut diamond earrings, as well as Brian Atwood heels.

With bold red being such a hot look on the carpet, even the ladies that didn’t wear gowns in the bright color found a way to incorporate it into their look. Television darlings Elisabeth Moss and Zooey Deschanel both rocked a version of the popular hue that set them apart from other bare faced beauties. Deschanel wore an Oscar de la Renta top and skirt, vintage Neil Lane diamond, pearl, citrine, and platinum flower earrings, diamond, pearl, and platinum bracelet, and pearl and platinum ring. Moss wore a J Mendel dress, Jennifer Meyer yellow gold and pave diamond triple drop triangle earrings, ring, and bracelet, as well as Stuart Weitzman heels.

While the ladies may have been stepping up their game for the award night, the men were not about to be left behind. Velvet was a big trend for the gentlemen on the carpet as Matthew McConaughey, Chris Hemswoth and Kevin Spacey all stepped out in the lush material. Spacey wore a black Burberry suit and totally rocked it—looking even more handsome than his younger cohorts.

Super–cute (and gorgeous) couple Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, came dressed in matching monochromatic outfits. Attending as a presenter, Tatum wore a Gucci black peak lapel one button Signoria tuxedo with a white evening shirt, black tie and a pair of black leather laceups; Dewan wore a Roberto Cavalli dress with Brian Atwood shoes, a Sam Lehr ring and Irene Neuwirth earrings.

After celebrating 25 years of marriage (aww!) Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were spotted looking like the picture of perfection at the Golden Globes this year. Staying away from anything too coordinated, the couple opted for darker colors and chicer lines. Hanks wore a Tom Ford suit and Wilson wore a drop waist Roberto Cavalli gown.

Ok, we’ll try very hard not to talk about the Game of Thrones trailer that was just released—very, very hard. But we can’t help but gush over seeing Daenerys Targaryen Emilia Clarke looking like a true princess out on the red carpet wearing a Proenza Schouler dress, Sidney Garber yellow gold bangles and diamond feather earrings, a Baird & Baird pale pink python clutch with Mother of Pearl clasp, and Giuseppe Zanotti heels with a bright Sally Hansen mani.

Matching outfits were pretty popular last night, with Golden Globe winner Bryan Cranston and wife Robin Dearden going for a black and white ensemble. Cranston wore a Burberry suit and tie, while his wife wore a white gown with a metallic embroidery belt.

Oh, Jennifer Lawrence. If we were taking bets we would have assumed this dress would have made the America Hustle star fall again on her way up the stairs, but (thankfully) it didn’t. We love the all-white gown she’s rocking but what really makes her one of our favorites was that awkward and uncomfortable speech she gave after winning her award. Lawrence wore a Dior Haute Couture dress, Neil Lane chandelier earrings, black and white diamond bracelets, white diamond and platinum ring, and cabochon emerald diamond and platinum ring, a Roger Vivier Paint Box Clutch and Sandale Plateau heels.
