Piazza Sempione's Neutral Collection Stays Simple and Subtle for Fall/Winter 2015

There’s nothing quite like a neutral collection, especially if said collection takes its inspiration from the most eclectic of artists. In an unexpected juxtaposition, Piazza Sempione channeled Jackson Pollock’s work for Fall/Winter 2015. The result was surprisingly refreshing, a sophisticated but fun lineup made for the fashion kid who is making an attempt to grow up. Shown in a manner befitting an art installation, models stood along bare walls with different images shown for each look in an attempt to provoke a different feeling or reaction. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the clothes made more of an impression during the brand’s informal presentation.

For Fall, Piazza Sempione offered up black, grey, mauve and bright splashes of cobalt blue or lime green for visual drama. But the remainder of the collection felt uninspired in the best way. Neutrals left the collection open to sartorial interpretation. The majority of the collection was paired with a red, rust-colored boot that complimented the dusty shades and brought to mind all the potential wardrobe possibilities. Those who revel in minimalism and understated style will appreciate each piece as its own statement, and those who prefer bold accessories will find these to be a practical backdrop for displaying an eye-catching shoe or bag.

Even luxurious fabrics like shearling, leather, cashmere, baby llama wool and mink were added almost passively. Done in tone-on-tone shades or used as an accent, textiles allowed the collection to be subtly elevated. A grey and lime mink shawl looked almost bold on a grey suit, and a violet and blue floral print on a grey overcoat were particular favorites that struck a chord just between the most minimalist looks and the bright blue selections.
