As Baselworld gets into full swing some of the most prestigious and well-known horological brands in the world are releasing some truly stunning timepieces that we can’t wait to get our hands on. One of the new watches, only previewed at Baselworld 2013, is Breguet's Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5377—a sleek piece inspired by Breguet’s affinity for innovative craftsmanship. Coming in platinum this year, the ultra-thin watch is only matched in beauty by its internal movement.
Housed in an extra-thin casing, the watch features a “spectacular horological invention”—an off-centered tourbillon enclosed in a titanium carriage. Designed specifically for such a slender timepiece, the platinum peripheral rotor winds in both directions to make this the thinnest self-winding tourbillon. The caliber 581DR movement functions at a frequency of 4 Hertz without any excessive loss to the 90-hour power reserve.
The watch features a 42mm platinum encasing with a sapphire back. The hour and minutes area of the face features a “clou de Paris hobnail pattern edged by a barleycorn motif,” while the power reserve indicator is decorated with chevron styling. The open-tipped hands are in an eye-catching blue steel and run around a Roman numeral inscribed face. The Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique comes with a leather strap and is also available in rose gold. Pricing has yet to be released.
