Fall is when getting dressed gets interesting again. This season’s best finds are for the woman who dresses deliberately from morning to midnight: silk and suede, satin and scent, and the beautiful objects that make ordinary days feel special. Herewith, a few of our favorite objects:

Heidi Merrick’s Marion Dress: Heidi Merrick’s Marion dress makes a convincing case for leaving your shoulders bare. The satin falls close to the body, the neckline dips, and a generous tie at the shoulder gives the eye somewhere to linger. It’s a dress to wear to a long dinner, when you’ll spend most of the evening being seen across a table. Pull your hair back, put something gold on your wrist and let the candlelight do its work. One of Merrick’s strongest supports – Meghan Markle – certainly does

Dorsey’s Floating Eternity Necklace in Emerald: The ubiquitous diamond tennis necklace gets an upgrade in emerald green, with Dorsey’s stunning lab-grown emeralds suspended on 14k yellow gold loops. The stones are closely set and framed in gold, so from a few feet away the necklace looks like a fine green ribbon you’re wearing around the neck. Somehow showstopping and elegant at once, this is a new classic that you’ll reach for time and again. As a bonus, it will make almost anyone’s eyes utterly sparkle.

Nour Hammour’s Tate Jacket: Nour Hammour’s Tate jacket is a coat that makes the clothes underneath seem beside the point. With tobacco suede, a waist pulled in with a long belt, and lapels that frame the face, the Tate jacket has all the sex appeal of seventies outerwear, when a woman could and often did occupy an entire film frame in a very good coat that stole the show alongside her. Wear it with tall boots and your hands in your pockets. That rich brown is particularly beautiful with a little cream showing at the neck.

David Mallet’s The Brush: There is something deliciously private about a beautiful hairbrush. It lives on the dressing table, comes out before bed and makes a small ceremony of taking the day apart. David Mallett’s Swiss-made version has a cellulose-acetate body and a rubber cushion fitted with boar bristles and nylon pins for smoothing and detangling. The design draws on his mother’s brushes and the cowrie shells of his childhood. A lovely object to leave beside the perfume, and a good excuse to sit down while getting ready.

Chloe Atelier des Fleurs Cedrus De Nuit: Quentin Bisch and Louise Turner have taken ChloĂ©’s Cedrus into the dark, building it around queen of the night — the cactus flower that opens once, after sunset, and is finished by morning — with its honeyed, faintly peppered edge. Benzoin and a dry vanilla hold the base. It begins warm and spiced, goes creamy through the heart, and settles into something resinous and wooded that tends to outlast the evening it was worn to.

With Nothing Underneath Silk shirt in Onyx: Tailored from fluid silk, WNU’s double-button cuff shirt will drape like liquid on your body. Elegant, cool, and sensual all at once, this hard-working top can be dressed up with leather pants and heels for a night out or thrown on with jeans to make running errands feel like starring on a film set.

Portar Aluminum Check-In Luggage: Portar’s aluminum silver luggage is for the woman who still dresses for the airport. It recalls the aluminium equipment cases carried by pilots and photographers in the seventies – sleek, capable and slightly secretive. The aluminum is built to withstand even the roughest parts of travel – improving with age – and the vibe is Lauren Hutton or a supermodel with a boarding pass: immaculate, and already somewhere better.

Typology’s T41 – Replenishing Lip Balm in Berry Red: Berry red is a wonderful colour for bringing a face back to life. Typology puts it in a balm, so the effect can be as slight as a little colour pressed into the lips with a fingertip, or deeper with another pass. A touch on the cheeks, mascara, a brushed eyebrow: that’s a face I’d happily take to lunch. Keep it in the handbag you actually carry; this is the sort of thing you’ll want at four in the afternoon.

J’amemme Scarf Chiffon Blouse: Ukranian brand J’amemme’s scarf chiffon blouse is a day-to-night knockout delivered in an unforgettable oxblood hue. With a dramatic scarf, high neck, and a number of different ways to wear open or closed, this is a top of rare verstality, elegance, and heat all in one. Wear it with a pencil skirt, jeans, or satin trousers. In any setting, it will stun.

INSTYTUTUM Vitamin C Brightening Serum: INSTYTUTUM is a legendary Swiss brand designed to manage biological age. Founded by longevity scientist, biotech innovator, and serial beauty entrepreneur Dr. Natalia Bobok, PhD, INSTYTUTUM’s products are all powerhouses. Remarklably, they also feel like cocooning your skin in a cloud. The brand’s Vitamin C Brightening Serum is no exception – delivering powerful synergistic actives to brighten skin while also smoothing on like silk.

Cami NYC’s Bristol Pants: There’s a particular glamour to black satin trousers and a sweater worn against bare skin. CAMI NYC’s Bristol has the loose fall has through the leg that makes the combination work, with a slight narrowing at the ankle to show off a good shoe. Wear it with a low-cut cashmere V-neck, push the sleeves up and add a narrow heel. It’s an excellent way to dress for dinner when you want to be comfortable enough to sit for hours but still ready to look striking should the occassion arise to get up and dance.

Memo Paris Darling Point: Memo Paris’ Darling Point has the makings of a very pretty addiction: pear, orange blossom and rose, with the sweetness of praline underneath. Named for the Sydney neighbourhood on the harbour, Memo Paris’s perfume invites a little daydreaming about warm weather, open windows and a bedroom full of afternoon light. I’d pair it with a white cotton dress and sandals, then carry the idea into autumn under a large, soft sweater. Some pleasures are worth being unwilling to give up.
