Diamond Aircraft’s new, all-composite twin engine DA52 model completed its maiden flight with huge success. The first flight was performed by Diamond Chairman Christian Dries and test pilot Ingmar Mayerbuch, after which Dries stated, “This is the best prototype aircraft I have ever made a maiden flight with and the performance exceeded all my expectations. I’m very proud of my team headed by Managing Director Manfred Zipper who realized this program in less than six months.”

The DA52 can carry up to seven people, however during the initial test flight, Dries and Mayberbuch took the model to 12,000 feet in nine minutes with an airspeed of 120 knots and a true speed of 190 knots. While that was the ceiling of the authorized test speed, Dries noted that the speed was not necessarily the limit of the airplane’s capability. The craft is powered by two Austro AE300 Turbo-Diesel Engines which expel 180 hp each.
