From the moment I entered The Spa at Séc-he, the calming, fragrant atmosphere began soothing the tension from my flight over to sun-drenched Palm Springs. The city itself emanates a welcoming air of calm. The expansive 73,000-square-foot sanctuary space unfolded with a thoughtful, inviting flow during my brief orientation. Soft desert light filtered through the spa’s contemporary architecture, with natural stone and splashes of colorful artwork adorning the walls. The sound of cascading water features soothed my mind, but I had already surrendered to the place. A collection of immersive, authentic wellness experiences inspired an inner tranquility, healing, and replenishment.
But first: The Sacred Tradition.
Rising from the legendary Agua Caliente Hot Mineral Spring is a life-giving source that has flowed from a 12,000-year-old aquifer for countless generations. It’s called Séc-he, one of the most sacred local resources, and it is watched over by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, who have an enduring presence in the area’s history.
Séc-he means “the sound of boiling water.” It rises from the deep, heated by geothermal forces and infused with minerals that are highly valued for their restorative qualities. The ceremonial “taking of the water” begins with a cultural legacy, a sacred tradition, and it is part of what sets The Spa at Séc-he apart from other modern full-amenity spas.
The core of the spa journey for guests begins with the therapeutic mineral bath itself. It’s part of the day pass, by reservation only. I disrobed in my private room as the pleasant, soothing sound of those revered bubbles emerged from the tub at a comfortable 105 degrees. I dipped my toes in and quickly immersed my entire body, sinking into the silky waters. Eyes closed, I floated weightlessly. I felt the restorative embrace on my skin, absorbing its powers and sensing a wonderful curative connection between nature and self. Time seemed to dissolve.
The spa’s offerings include signature treatments that blend ancient healing wisdom with contemporary techniques. A relaxing massage paired perfectly with the springs, allowing expert fingers to knead those minerals into my pores. In a plush, ambient private room next door, a friend opted for a bespoke facial from the array of nourishing experiences and treatments. Heated quartz treatment beds, steam rooms, saunas, IV drips, and a serene Himalayan salt cave invited us to move freely between moments in a ritual of self-care.
With the Grounded Tranquility room, also with state-of-the-art zero-gravity conductive chairs and healing frequency therapy, I achieved a transformative state of deep relaxation. I’d invest in one of those for home, but you might not ever see me again.
Beyond its exceptional therapies indoors, the multiple award-winning Spa at Séc-he embodies the essence of accessible desert luxury outside, too. Sophisticated relaxation lounges, private cabanas, waterfalls, and tranquil spaces between bathing pools encourage guests to linger, savor the stillness, and embrace the slower rhythm of the surrounding landscape.
Thoughtfully crafted culinary offerings from The Málmal Café and Pál Bar offer Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and poolside dining service. Framed by dramatic mountain vistas and the timeless beauty of the Coachella Valley, the spa offers an escape where the restorative power of nature and refined hospitality exist in perfect harmony.
The Cahuilla Tribe are not only the stewards of Spa at Séc but also oversee many of the canyons that host various hiking trails in Palm Springs. Indian Canyons comprises Andreas Canyon, Palm Canyon, and Murray Canyon. A leisurely afternoon climbing Andreas, along commanding rock formations. I loved the cool trickling waters of Andreas Creek beneath lush fauna. Like any day in Palm Springs, remember to bring your water. The reward is those unique views amid the magnificent California Fan Palm, making for a truly immersive visit to Palm Springs.
