Jaguar's Daring 59-Foot High-Wire Driving Stunt Unveils the XF Above Canary Wharf

How would you unveil a brand new luxury auto? Well, someone at Jaguar had the insane idea of putting their all-new, previously unseen, XF car up on high-wires stretched over London’s Canary Wharf, with a stunt driver inside to actually drive across. It sounds crazy, but surprisingly enough, Jaguar made it happen! As you can see in the above video, the epic crossing was done on two 28mm-wide carbon fiber cables (which is about the width of a thumb) that were suspended 18 meters (around 59 feet) above surface level.

Calling the stunt the “world’s longest high-wire journey” above the city’s busy business district, Jaguar is using the reveal to make a point regarding the XF’s lightweight chassis—which is apparently 80kg lighter than its competitors. With James Bond stuntman Jim Dowdall behind the wheel to make the 240-meter drive (around 787 feet), the event was pulled off without any mishaps, though many safety precautions were put in place just in case.

The Jaguar XF will be heading to the New York International Auto Show on April 1 next.
