The new Lamborghini Huracán STO brings the track to the streets

While inspiration images for the new Lamborghini Huracán STO were released in November 2020, after multiple years of design and production, the street-homologated super sports car is now available for purchase. Drawing inspiration from Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and GT3 EVO race cars, this unique Lamborghini brings superior aerodynamics and race car engineering to street driving. It also has a V10 naturally aspirated 640 hp engine which propels the car from 0-62 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0-124 mph in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph.

Its entirely new exterior design is a unique lightweight solution which revises the inimitable Lamborghini profile to optimize airflow. A result from the collaboration between Lamborghini’s R&D, Squadra Corse and Centro Stile departments, highlights of some of the aerodynamic solutions include: carbon fiber in more than 75% of its exterior panels (which reduces the weight of the vehicle by 95 lbs. compared to the already lightweight Huracán Performante), 20% lighter windscreen, magnesium rims, a new rear fender with NACA air intake, the cofango - combines the ‘cofano’ (hood) and ‘parafango’ (fender) including the front bumper - with air ducts, front splitter and louvers and much more.

“The Huracán STO delivers all the excitement of a beautifully balanced, lightweight and aerodynamically superior super sports car, mirroring the driving feeling and exhilaration of Super Trofeo, and perfectly set up for the world’s most demanding tracks but created for the road,” said Maurizio Reggiani, Automobili Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer.

Its interior and exterior have both been designed with a purpose, giving the pilot a race car experience on the road. From the moment the engine is fired up with much gusto, the pilot is immersed in the Lamborghini driving experiences. Its engine has been calibrated for a very sporty and responsive racing feel, where the true roar and power of the vehicle isn’t seen until the car hits 5,000 rpm. Its rear-wheel steering creates a more intimate relationship between car and driver with a highly responsive and rapid gearshift and three ANIMA driving modes, STO (road driving and fun on curving roads), Trofeo (optimized for dry asphalt and the fastest lap times on track) and Pioggia (rain, which optimizes traction control, torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering and the ABS on wet asphalt).

“The extensive technical solutions and intelligence gained from both our Super Trofeo and GT3 programs has been refined and embodied in the Huracán STO, allowing the pilot to experience the emotions of a racing driver, daily, in a road-legal Lamborghini super sports car able to take lap records,” said Reggiani.

Reflecting the engineering of its lightweight exterior, the interior of the car also has extensive use of carbon throughout (cockpit, seats, floor mats, door panels) and an Alcantara interior with Lamborghini’s Carbonskin. The new Human Machine Interface (HMI) graphics feature on the Huracán’s 8.4-inch touch screen, manages the car’s functions including drive mode indicator, the LDVI system, tire pressures and brake temperatures. Owners of the Huracán STO can also make use of the fully connected telemetry system to monitor and record their performance and to analyze the data via the Lamborghini UNICA app. They are also able to fully customize both the exterior and interior of the vehicle with limitless paint and trim combinations as well as race-style vinyls.

Currently the vehicle has been launched with a livery of Blu Laufey and Arancio California, which exemplifies the Huracán STO’s young and sporty racing spirit. The first customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini Huracán STO in Spring 2021.
