Last fall, Seattle’s extraordinary connection to the world of glass art took center stage at GATHER inside the spectacular Chihuly Garden and Glass. The venue hosted the annual REFRACT kick-off evening with an excite reception. This October, the city once again welcomes the international glass community as REFRACT: The Seattle Glass Experience returns on October 15 through October 18, 2026.
This year’s festivities will recognize three significant milestones in the glass art world: Chihuly Studio’s return to Venice after 30 years, Seattle Glassblowing Studio’s 35th anniversary, and Pratt Fine Arts Center’s 50th anniversary.

Throughout the evening guests will have the opportunity to admire live glassblowing demonstrations by some of Seattle’s most talented glass artists. There will be VIP tours of Chihuly Garden and Glass, live music, hors d’oeuvres, signature cocktails and special programs designed to enhance your senses.

Those who want to attend Chihuly Garden and Glass | GATHER: The official opening night party can purchase tickets at $75 per person. It’s a fitting and festive way to celebrate one of Seattle’s most distinctive art forms.

Many visitors to Chihuly Garden and Glass don’t realize that there is another art-filled experience just steps from the entrance. The Bar at Chihuly offers an intimate glimpse into a more playful side of Dale Chihuly. At the heart of the room is an exquisite sculpted wood bar top and installation of 36 of Chihuly’s drawings. Besides his artwork there are also 25 of his distinctive collections of household items and knick knacks. The space is transformed into a place of wonder and color.
Antique radios line the shelves of one wall, while more than 20 accordions are suspended overhead. At the dining tables, glass-topped wood surfaces reveal whimsical collections, including small dog figurines and other treasured objects. It’s the only place where visitors and fans of Chihuly’s work can see a different side of his personality and sense of play that is a striking contrast to the monumental glass installations found throughout the galleries.
The experience continues at the table with a menu of chef-driven dishes. The Pacific Northwest-inspired menu pairs beautifully with a craft cocktail, mocktail or glass of wine. The chefs source local ingredients for seasonal offerings and partners with regional purveyors of beer, wine and spirits. Settle in and linger over a steaming bowl of tomato soup with buttery grilled cheese, or share savory sliders and other inviting bites.

Once fortified, step inside Chihuly Garden and Glass to learn more about the life of the artist whose glass can be found in more than 200 museum and galleries around the world. His work has been exhibited in fine-art institutions, historic cities and gardens, and dazzles the ceiling at Bellagio Las Vegas Hotel.
The roots of America’s studio-glass movement goes back more than six decades. In 1962, University of Wisconsin ceramics professor Harvey Littleton launched the nation’s first university glass program. Among his early students was Washington-born Dale Chihuly, who would go on to become one of the most influential figures in contemporary glass art.
His work has helped establish the city of Seattle and the greater Puget Sound region to become an important glass art center in America.

Stroll slowly through the gallery to discover Chihuly’s artistic vision, from early drawings and individual works of glass to monumental architectural installations and his vibrant ‘Persian Ceiling.’ Hundreds of vibrant pieces of shaped glass create a kaleidoscope of color in each room and overhead.
The permanent exhibition unfolds through the luminous Glasshouse and out into the seasonal outdoor Garden. Chihuly’s work is cleverly set against the natural landscape with the towering Space Needle in full view.
Visitors can also watch live glassblowing demonstrations and step into the Theatre to discover a film exploring Chihuly’s life, career and enduring influence on the world of contemporary glass art.
