Hediard, a fine foods and confectionary store, that dates back to 1854, filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday, France 24 reports, via a story circulated by the AFP.
The store, which began as a small shop in Paris specializing in exotic foods, with shops in 30 countries worldwide, goes to court on Thursday to determine if an administrator should be assigned to handle the proceedings.
The luxury food chain is owned by the Luxadvor Group, which is controlled by Russian Sergei Pugachev. The outfit acquired Hediard in 2007. The company is reported to have been operating at a deficit for the past six months.
....Hediard made its first foray onto the international scene when it opened in Japan in 1973. It now has a restaurant in Moscow and six cafes scattered among a number of countries, including Singapore.
