COMO Hotels and Resorts, the Singapore-based luxury hospitality company that owns the famed Parrot Cay in the Turks & Caicos, is gearing up to open its very first U.S. property later this month. Metropolitan by COMO, Miami Beach—a brand extension of the company’s chic Metropolitan London and Metropolitan Bangkok properties—is set to become one of the city’s coolest destinations.

Set to open by the end of January, the 74-room hotel occupies a carefully restored and updated 1930s building located in the heart of the city’s famous Art Deco district. It is uniquely situated to have water views on two sides, across the Atlantic to the east or the Intracoastal Waterway to the west. Located on Collins Avenue, the hotel will have direct access to the beach and will include a swimming pool, two restaurants, and a COMO Shambhala Urban Escape spa.

Italian interior designer Paola Navone was tasked with preserving the hotel’s Art Deco heritage and gave it an “urban, contemporary” twist with shades of peppermint green and dusky grey, and surfaces of cool white marble and shining chrome. The Traymore, the hotel’s headline restaurant, will highlight locally-caught seafood with an emphasis on fine dining and traditional service, while the poolside café will be a more casual and relaxed option. And the Met Bar will offer premium wines and spirits. The COMO Shambhala Urban Escape will feature four treatment rooms and a rooftop hydrotherapy pool.
