Everyone in Boston knows the name Jerry Remy is synonymous with Red Sox Nation. The former Sox second baseman and current broadcaster created the now famous RemDawg hot dogs that were once only available at Fenway Park. Now you can find them at his restaurant Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill on Boylston Street or his recently opened second location at Liberty Wharf in the Seaport District.
Since the Red Sox have sold out every game since May 2003, Remy’s has introduced a unique game experience to those who don’t have the chance to watch it from Fenway Park. Last year, they launched a “Season Pass” program to attract fans priced out of the live game experience, in which tickets, parking, food and merchandise can set a family back hundreds of dollars per game.
For $500, patrons receive guaranteed seating for themselves and their guests (no limit on number of guests), exclusive entry through the rear entrance of Jerry Remy’s (Season Pass holders are e-mailed a verbal password, changed daily, to give at the door), a $25 food credit, plus one complimentary glass of beer and wine, invitations to private events, an autographed photo of you and Jerry Remy at your table (date and time of photo with Jerry to be determined by his availability), front of the line privileges, 20 percent discount on all merchandise sold at Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill and private dining room fee waived for all pre-booked events and parties.
We visited the 1265 Boylston Street location the night of a recent Red Sox game. The restaurant was jam packed but our server quickly came over and greeted us. We started off with the beer battered onion rings – an enormous basket of crispy sweet rings arrived with spicy mayo for dipping. The fried buffalo wings were hot and spicy served with a ranch or blue cheese sauce.
The beef sliders were thin and somewhat dry but the crispy onion strings on top made up for it. Other appetizers included pan seared crab cakes, steamed PEI mussels, “totally loaded” cheese fries and The Green Monster (1.5 pounds of buffalo wings, six beef and cheddar sliders, cheese fries and onion rings).
Moving right along, we sampled the house smoked St. Louis style ribs. An enormous half rack of juicy fall-off-the-bone ribs arrived accompanied by a side of flavorful German potato salad and sweet corn salsa. The grilled marinated steak tips were the declared winner of the table – a heaping portion of tender juicy beef tips arrived served with garlic mashed potatoes.
The casual fare menu also features a good variety of sandwiches, burgers and salads. If you are looking for a fun experience before, during or after a Red Sox game, this is one place you don’t want to miss.
