Step into this backyard in Madrid and you’ll immediately be blown away by the larger-than-life installation creating a backdrop at its pool. Originally created as a screen for privacy, the 49-foot-tall wall that sits behind the pool was designed by Manuel Ocaña. Recently, the installation got an updated look thanks to photographer and filmmaker Miguel de Guzmán and now resembles a mermaid's paradise.

Guzmán created an elaborate, constantly-changing scene through the use of the surrounding greenery, vertical vegetation and mirrors that reflect the sky and water. To get the project started, Guzmán erected a modular structure in front of the wall to attach the curved stainless steel mirrors that avoid glare and heat reflection.

Following the “metallic petals,” the photographer added 60 nebulisers to produce a mist over the vegetation. The last piece was creating a 1:37 film entitled Splash, which brought the whole scene to life, even featuring a mermaid diving into the pool.

"The main idea behind the movie was to show the changes on the garden installation during the day, also to communicate the feelings of the particular atmosphere it creates," said Guzmán.
