Jill Weinlein

Whether you want to start the year chilling beachside or experiencing adrenaline-pumping thrills, Royal Caribbean International offers an array of cruise ships with itineraries that stop for a Perfect Day at CocoCay. It's a private island destination in the Bahamas that takes adventure to a whole new level.

Adults looking for a luxury island getaway will want to upgrade to the most luxurious Coco Beach Club. This private oasis offers an expansive oceanfront infinity pool and elevated dining menu at the lounge, restaurant and bar. There are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas on the white sand, or you can reserve an even more ultimate day staying in one of the private overwater cabanas.

One almost feels as if they are in Bora Bora relaxing underneath a thatched roof floating open-air bungalow. A dedicated concierge staff member rides a bicycle onto the pier to deliver your requests for the day. It's a day to recline on comfortable lounge furniture and slide into the warm turquoise water.

There are multiple ways vacationers can get an overview of CocoCay. Complimentary trams transport guests on an informative ride to unique beaches, sparkling pools and fun attractions every 15 minutes. Pick up starts near Thrill Water Park and stops at South Beach, Coco Beach Club, Oasis Lagoon, Chill Island and Up, Up, and Away.

For a fee, passengers can enter the colorful Up, Up & Away helium balloon and rise up to 450 feet in the air. The views are fabulous as you quietly scan the entire island during the 10-minute ride. This is the highest vantage point in the Bahamas.

At Thrill Waterpark guests can get a picturesque overview of the island at Zip Line Takeoff. For a fee, guests zip over the island and splash above a fountain.

Thrill-seekers can test their courage by climbing up a tower of stairs and plunging down a 135-foot waterslide. It's the tallest waterslide in North America, and one of 11 slides at CocoCay rated on a thrill meter from 'Cool Coasting to Max Thrill Threshold.'

The Dueling Demons offers twin drop slides launching riders 75 feet from a vertical position. The Green Mamba is a twist and turn 50-foot slide, and the Sling Shot allows four riders to soar on a raft into a zero-gravity moment before plummeting down.

This waterpark area also offers the Caribbean’s largest wave pool, and an Adventure Pool where little ones can bounce, swing and splash through obstacles while walking on floating lily pads. They can climb a rock wall or hold onto two swing ropes.

Families looking to stay here all day can use one of the complimentary lockers to secure their belongings, and dine at the Snack Shack for complimentary burgers, hot dogs, salads, fruit and cookies.

Another way to experience CocoCay is on top or underneath the water. Breezy Bay shore excursion rentals include jet skis and kayak tours at Chill Island. There is also a snorkel shack, divers den for scuba tours, and beach rental shack for floating mats. The soft white sand beaches and water views make this a great spot for families to spend the day.

Complimentary games at Breezy Bay include volleyball, basketball, cornhole and table tennis.

Those seeking the liveliest spot on the island will want to swim up to the in-water bar at Oasis Lagoon. There are 23 in-water seats to sit and order the island's signature Coco Loco drink. A live DJ sets the beat for guests who are dancing in the water and for those who find a spot to chill.

Those who visit South Beach will discover a full service floating bar out on the clear blue water. Swim or wade out to it for a beverage, beer or tropical cocktail. Nearby are circular white float hammocks to chill in the sunshine.

South Beach also has sport courts, cabanas and day beds to rent for the day. Even though there are up-charges for activities and venues at CocoCay, there are many complimentary food, beverage, swimming and sunbathing options to ensure a perfect day.

Royal Caribbean International is cruising to Perfect Day at CocoCay throughout 2023 - 2024. It's a safe port filled with beautiful beaches, refreshing swimming pools, and thrilling water activities in the warm Caribbean sun.
