For travelers who want their Napa Valley hotel to double as the destination rather than a place to simply crash between wineries, The Meritage Resort and Spa is built for this premise. Spread across 36 acres at Napa’s southern edge, the property stacks vineyard views, multiple restaurants, two pools, a wine-cave spa and on-site tasting rooms into a single footprint. It’s the kind of resort where a guest could plausibly never start the car.
The resort sits on a hillside ringed by vineyards, including nine acres planted on the property itself. It’s close enough to downtown Napa to make use of it, and a resort shuttle covers that stretch. But the design is self-contained, and set up to function as a full itinerary rather than a home base.

Spacious Accommodations
Guest rooms range from standard vineyard-view options to suites sized for groups. My Grand Cru Suite ran 1,275 square feet, with a living room, full kitchen, a table that seats 12, two bathrooms and a terrace. It’s residential in size, and more than once, I commented that “I could live here.” The two-bedroom suites match that footprint: kitchen, living room, three balconies, two bathrooms. For anyone booking a multi-family trip or a group celebration, that’s more square footage and more bathrooms than a block of standard rooms would give you.

Spa Terra: Wellness Beneath the Vineyard
The property’s spa, Spa Terra, is built into a cave under the vineyard. It’s a fantastical, atmospheric setting that distinguishes it from a typical resort spa. The menu covers massage, facials and body treatments. Separate male/female locker facilities feature LED-lit whirlpools and steam rooms, and anyone booking a treatment receives access to the luxurious adults-only pool just across the way.

Two Pools, Two Ways to Spend the Day
The Meritage’s two pools resolve the usual tension between a family vacation and an adult one. The adults-only pool has vineyard views, cushy chaise lounges, a whirlpool and cabanas; the slightly larger family pool, on the other side of the property, has its own whirlpool and cabanas. Both are heated year-round, and poolside food and drink service means guests don’t have to leave to eat.
Wine Without Leaving the Resort
Wine remains central to the experience, as it should in Napa. The resort has on-site tasting rooms, including Trinitas Cellars, whose tasting room is located at the property. Trinitas offers tastings daily, serving its Napa Valley wines and small-production releases. The winery has been family-owned since its founding in 2002 and remains closely tied to the property and its wine experiences. For hotel guests, the arrangement is particularly convenient.

From Steak to Italian-Inspired Fare
Dining options include Ember Steak, the resort’s steakhouse, serving dry-aged beef alongside sushi and a wine list built around more than 90 references, weighted toward Cabernet Sauvignon. Olive & Hay covers Italian, farm-to-table territory. Crush Lounge adds six bowling lanes to the mix, and Commons Bar, Blend Café, poolside dining and in-room dining round out the options.

Music on the Village Lawn
The resort has also become an entertainment destination. Blue Note Napa’s Summer Sessions (which continues well into autumn) brings live music to the Village Lawn, creating an outdoor concert setting surrounded by the resort and vineyards. The current lineup includes artists such as Diana Ross, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Babyface, with concert-view room packages that pair accommodations with tickets and private balcony views of the performances. For music lovers, booking a lawn-surrounding guest room or suite turns a concert into a personal performance. (Book the Grand Cru Suite for instance, and easily entertain a group of 12 with perfect stage sightlines.)

Walk the Vineyard
One of the resort’s more appealing features is also one of its simplest: a walkable trail that climbs into the nine-acre vineyard-covered hill behind the property. Paths wind upward through the vines, with sitting areas tucked beneath the oak trees where guests can stop and take in the view. The trail also offers an unusual sightline to the enormous Grape Crusher statue, the instantly recognizable figure that stands along the highway outside the resort.
The trails also make The Meritage particularly appealing to travelers with dogs. The resort welcomes up to two dogs under 80 pounds per room, with a one-time $100 fee that includes a dog bed for use during the stay, a take-home bowl, treats and potty bags. There is a dedicated pet-relief area, along with ground-floor accommodations with patios and pet-friendly patios at select restaurants and tasting rooms.
Napa for Every Season
Programming shifts with the calendar: pool days and concerts in summer, harvest events in fall, and Merry Meritage, the resort’s much beloved holiday activation, complete with an ice rink. The resort is designed to be an itinerary in itself, not just a launch point for one. It’s the rare Napa stay where you don’t have to choose between exploring and unwinding. You can do both, without ever leaving the property.
