The Andaz San Diego is calling all music lovers to gather for its Behind The Beat music forum, on Wednesday November 14th at 7 pm inside the hotel’s Ivy Nightclub, for an in depth discussion dissecting how technology and the digital age has changed the way music is both produced and enjoyed. Behind The Beat is the first forum in what will be a bi-monthly series of digital music dialogues which will include guest speakers. It is also part of the Andaz Salon Series of cultural events which the San Diego hotel has been hosting as an effort to connect guests and locals with enriching community outlets.
For this inaugural gathering guest speakers will include San Diego DJs, DJ Scooter and Mikey Beats, both of which are highly active in the music community both locally and internationally. DJ Scooter, who performs with artist Lavelle Dupree has been voted San Diego’s best hip-hop DJ for four years in a row and has performed at events such as Coachella and the Sundance Film Festival. Mikey Beats has shared a stage with some of the music industry’s most popular performers including, LMFAO, Black Eyed Peas, Talib Kueli, Wu Tang Clang, and Too Short, among several others. He is also the resident touring DJ for Monster Energy Drink.
DJ Scooter and Mikey Beats will weigh in on the topic of “Old School vs. New School” DJing and will help tackle the “Just Press Play” issue that has cropped up since vinyls have gone out of style and MP3s have come in. General Manager of the Andaz, Rusty Middleton said “Topics will include the use of vinyl versus mixing digital files, creating pre-recorded sets, whether the music or the show should be a DJ’s focus and what history teaches about providing concert and club-goers with the ultimate electronic music experience.” After the discussion, guests will have the opportunity to engage in a question-and-answer session and experience live DJ demonstrations.
Andaz San Diego is proud to include Behind The Beat in its schedule of events for the Andaz Salon Series that is sweeping the nation, bringing the community together through a selective itinerary of cultural offerings, which includes everything from fashion and art to music and discussion.
