Swings in Montreal

Once again Montreal brings out the interactive musical installation known as "21 Swings." The installation features, as you would have guessed, 21 swings that with each pass let out a musical note, and when riders synchronize it plays a joyous tune.

21 Swings (“21 Balançoires”) is an interactive musical installation made up of specially equipped swings. By playing on them, they act as a giant instrument, with some melodies that can only be reached in cooperation with other people. The installation is a project of Mouna Andraos & Melissa Mongiat of design studio Daily tous les jours and can be found annually at Montréal’s Quartier des Spectacles in the springtime.

The project stimulates ownership of the public space, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds, and creating a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city centre.
