The guys over at Breitling must have a fascination with superheroes. Their last timepiece was named Avenger and their latest has been nicknamed the “Dark Knight of the Oceans”— coincidence? All Batman references aside, their new timepiece, actually named the Superocean Chronograph M2000 Blacksteel (okay, Dark Knight does sound cooler), is a pretty awesome little piece of machinery. It’s the only chronograph watch in the world to be “water-resistant and fully functional at 2,000 meters.” Crafted entirely in black, this timepiece lives up to its nickname both in form and function.

Using a patented magnetic system, the Superocean Chronograph M2000 Blacksteal allows the chronograph functions to be used underwater without risk of damage to the device. Rather than using the crown to access the chronograph, it can be enabled by the metal casing to make for ease of use and protection underwater.

While there is a steel version available, the black series is a limited-edition collection, coming in only 250 pieces. The dark color is achieved through a high-resistance, carbon-based treatment and a matching dial helps to give the piece its name. For true divers, the oversized, luminescent face, hands and numbers allow for better visibility in dark ocean depths and is equipped with a built-in decompression valve to vent helium. The bezel is covered in a rubber mold for a better underwater grip and the case is fitted with a 4mm thick, glare-proof sapphire crystal. So really, despite being given the Batman nickname, we're pretty sure this was also designed for the oceanic, Aquaman types.
