It seemed like the day would never come, but Game of Thrones is coming back to us on April 12! To say that the JustLuxe office is excited would be a massive understatement—we only talk about it every single day. Before we dig into the upcoming season full of murder and mayhem, we thought it would be nice to look back on our fallen favorites and see what they’ve been up to since their bloody demise. Obviously, this is full of spoilers. If you still haven’t caught up or worse, if you haven’t even started the show yet, you really only have yourself to blame. 

Sean Bean AKA Eddard Stark

It seems like eons ago that Ed Stark was killed off, but his death still resonates throughout the show. After all, his beheading pretty much caused the entire chain of events that we’ve experienced thus far. Not one to take it easy, Sean Bean has done plenty since his jaunt on GoT in 2011, including a TV series called Missing and another called The Frankenstein Chronicles that has yet to begin. He’s not doing too bad on the film front either, with Pixels (co-starring Peter Dinklage) and The Martian both slated for 2015 releases. He has another called Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, which is based on an Anne Rice novel and is in the middle of post-production right now, planned for release next year. 

Harry Lloyd AKA Viserys Targaryen

Before playing Viserys Targaryen, most people recognized English actor Harry Lloyd from his creepy role on Doctor Who in 2007. No one liked Viserys, he was a power-hungry pervert who thought of his sister as his property, so when Khal Drogo finally gave him that golden crown in one of the show's best death scenes, we all rejoiced.

 While Lloyd is really good at making us all uncomfortable with that dead Care Bear stare, he’s also proved that he can do so much more. From his indie role in last year’s underrated Big Significant Things to starring opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in The Theory of Everything, Lloyd is on to great things. It’s also pretty cool that he’s the great-great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens and has acted in two television adaptions of the author’s novels. No big deal.

Jason Momoa AKA Khal Drogo

Some of us are still mourning the loss of Khal Drogo and are hoping that he makes another appearance, even if it’s just another hallucinatory vision. He and Daenerys Targaryen may not have gotten married under the best of circumstances in season one, but their relationship is what gave her the courage and strength to become the bad ass Mother of Dragons we love today. Since winning all of our hearts, Jason Momoa has appeared in The Red Road TV series and can next be seen playing Aquaman in the highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and in 2017’s The Justice League Part One. 

Richard Madden AKA Robb Stark

We all known what happened to this poor guy and if you don’t, just pop “Red Wedding” into a search engine and enjoy your nightmares. The season three episode left us with three big deaths, the biggest of which was Robb Stark’s. After declaring himself the King in the North and breaking a marriage promise made to Lord Walder Frey, Robb made some pretty heavy enemies. This is why we don’t trust Westeros weddings.

Richard Madden seems to be doing alright after Robb’s brutal death. His first big post-GoT role was as Prince Charming in the recent Cinderella adaptation—not too shabby—and next year you can see him star in Bastille Day, alongside Idris Elba. He’s currently filming a made-for-TV adaptation of D. H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterly’s Lover; he’s playing Oliver Mellors, the lover (of course). 

Michelle Fairley AKA Catelyn Stark

The Stark matriarch was one of the only rational-thinking characters on the show, which meant she obviously had to die. Sure, if the men in Catelyn Stark’s life actually listened to her, they’d all probably still be alive, but then GoT wouldn’t be as exciting as it is.

Michelle Fairley had a full career before GoT, appearing in films like The Others and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, and she hasn’t slowed down. Since Catelyn’s death alongside Robb’s in season three, Fairley has done a couple TV series (Suits, 24: Live Another Day, and Resurrection) and can soon be seen in the upcoming In the Heart of the Sea alongside Chris Hemsworth and Cillian Murphy. 

Oona Chaplin AKA Talisa Maegyr

Talisa was nursing wounded soldiers when she attracted the attentions of Robb Stark. The two fell in love, got married, and then died. It all seemed to happen so fast. Talisa’s death was definitely the most disturbing of the show thus far, shocking everyone with its brutality. But Oona Chaplin is doing alright for herself, she’s doing great in fact. Very soon you can catch Oona in the latest Nicolas Sparks adaptation, The Longest Ride, where she’ll be appearing alongside Jack Huston and Scott Eastwood. She also has three movies set for release with the next couple years: Havana’s Heart & Beats, Project Lazarus, and Remember It.

On a final note, if you’re wondering about her name, she’s Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter and was named after her grandmother, Oona Chaplin. 

Jack Gleeson AKA Joffrey Baratheon

I may be in the minority here, but I was sad to see Joffrey go. That’s not to say I loved his character, because I didn’t—Joffrey was pure evil and I hated him with a fiery passion—but Jack Gleeson is amazing. The simple fact that he was able to be so dang evil and wring out so much hatred from fans of the show just goes to show how talented the young Irish actor really is. Watching him chew scenes with performers like Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey was amazing, and I’m certainly going to miss that.

Prior to his character’s death at his own wedding in season four, Gleeson announced that he would be retiring from acting once his role as Joffrey was finished and he’s stuck by it. Telling Rolling Stone that the realities of being a famous actor isn’t something that he wants for himself, even saying that he couldn’t watch himself on the show because his character was just too unredeemable. The 22-year-old is now focusing on academics (he’s studying theology and philosophy at Trinity College in Dublin) and charity work with Goal, which gives aid to homeless residents of Haiti. How's that for redeeming? 

Rose Leslie AKA Ygritte

Ygritte gave us the phrase “You know nothing Jon Snow” and we will love her forever for that. The Wilding was brash, tough and witty, making it easy to see why Jon Snow fell for her. Unfortunately, her need for revenge ended up causing her death in season four, but Rose Leslie isn’t slowing down. Alongside Vin Diesel and Elijah Wood, Leslie can be seen in The Last Witch Hunter at the end of the year and in 2016 you can catch her in Sticky Notes with Ray Liotta and Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez.

Pedro Pascal AKA Oberyn Martell

Who didn’t love the dashing Oberyn Martell? He was clever, smooth-talking, handsome, and didn’t have any silly boundaries when it came sexuality. The Prince of Dorne showed up at King’s Landing to get revenge on the Lannisters for the death of his sister and her kids. It was all going to plan, with him finally getting the chance to step in the ring with the man who did it (The Mountain), but he let his arrogance get away from him and he was (quite literally) crushed to death. Just another reminder to us fans that we can’t fall in love with any characters, because they’ll probably be killed.

Since GoT, Pedro Pascal has appeared in a few TV series and has several movies coming up, including 2016’s The Great Wall with Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe. 

Sibel Kekilli AKA Shae

Shae seemed to be the only one to truly love Tyrion (a man who is rejected and persecuted by his own family), which made her betrayal all the more heartbreaking and pretty hard to grasp. Sibel Kekilli may not have as much in the works as her former coworkers, but if you’re lucky you can still catch her in Tatort, a German detective series.

Rory McCann AKA The Hound AKA Sandor Clegane

Okay, so those of us who haven’t read the books aren’t 100 percent sure that he died in season four’s final episode—we didn’t actually see him die after all. But considering his IMDB lists Rory McCann’s involvement in the show ending in 2014, The Hound is probably out of the picture. Perfectly encapsulating the idea that no character in the story is completely good or evil, The Hound was a tough nut to crack. We went from hating him to respecting and loving him in a very distrustful way. He looked after Arya and even loved her in the way a father would—a cruel father, but a protector nonetheless—and it is going to be sad not having him around anymore.

We’ll certainly be seeing McCann around though. Set for an April 16 release, he stars in Slow West with Michael Fassbender, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Ben Mendelsohn. You can also catch him in BBC’s new series Banish, which tells the story of British criminals sent to Australia as punishment. 

Charles Dance AKA Tywin Lannister

Maybe Tywin wasn’t many people’s favorite per se—since he was a rotten person—but he was one of the biggest players in the show. He controlled everyone and demanded obedience, from selling his daughter, Cersei, off in marriage (which probably won’t happen now) to continually cutting Tyrion down and ordering the murder of whoever he wished. He was the jerk who never smiled.

Charles Dance seems super nice though and has a long career that started in 1974 in television. He recently appeared in The Imitation Game and has a slew of upcoming projects, including the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies book adaptation that will reunite him with his GoT daughter Lena Headey and costars Jack Huston, Lily James, and Matt Smith. In just a couple weeks though you can catch him in Child 44 with Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, and Noomi Rapace. 

There’s no doubt that after the fifth season, we will probably need a whole new list, especially since author George R.R. Martin announced that we will be seeing more characters die who are still very much alive in the books. Fans are already speculating as to who will be killed off, spending long hours analyzing every bit of released footage, but we do have a good idea as to who won’t be killed off.

Thanks to Martin’s original story outline from 1993 being leaked last month, we now know who he always intended on having live to the end. While that may have certainly changed over the years, many of the cast members have already signed contracts for season seven. While being contracted to appear in the seventh season doesn’t necessarily mean they are 100 percent safe from losing a job, it bodes pretty well for our favorite characters and the actors who play them: Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). 

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see who survives the Game of Thrones.
