Soho House, the private club with outlets worldwide, has announced the second phase of an expansion plan that calls for five new houses to be opened over the next two years. Soho House was founded in London in 1995, as a private members’ club for those in film, media and creative industries and now has outlets in New York, London, West Hollywood, Berlin, Miami and elsewhere.

The new openings are confirmed for Toronto, Mumbai, Chicago, Istanbul and Barcelona by the end of 2014. These are the first Soho Houses in Canada, India, Turkey and Spain, and each will maintain the unique quality of the Soho House as an oasis in the city. The announcement comes five months after investor Ron Burkle acquired a major stake in the Group and assumed the role of chairman.
The first property to open will be Soho House Toronto (rendering above) this autumn and follows three years of Soho House pop-ups during the Toronto International Film Festival. The Soho House will be on Bishops Block, one block from the King West Theatre District and the headquarters of TIFF. It will be located in a building dating back to the 1800s which was originally one of Toronto’s first hotels and has been recently restored.

Soho House Mumbai will open in Spring 2013. The club and 38 room hotel will be in a converted building on Juhu Tara Road, on the beach in Mumbai’s cosmopolitan Juhu neighborhood. The 10-story building will have a rooftop pool and an infinity bar looking out onto the water. Soho House Chicago (rendering below) is set to open in Spring 2014 and will be in a 1907 warehouse on Green Street in the Randolph Market area of the West Loop.
The six-story building was originally the manufacturing center of the Chicago Belting Factory. Original features of the building include an ornamented entrance lobby and large open plan spaces with an exposed concrete structural system. The house will host 35 bedrooms, a full sized pool, courtyard and a glass enclosed rooftop bar and kitchen.

Also slated for Spring 2014 is the Soho House Istanbul opening. Located in the Beyoglu district and built in 1873, the club will span three buildings including the main structure, Palazzo Corpi. The club will be lined with frescoes, paintings and ceilings covered in mythological figures. It will contain 88 bedrooms, club spaces and areas for private hire and rooftop pools.
Soho House Barcelona will open in Winter 2014 and will be in a 19th century apartment block on Plaza Medinaceli. The club is set around a glass atrium and will include 60 bedrooms and a rooftop pool with views of the city and sea. The club space will feature a dining area, bar, game room and gym, and ground floor will have a public restaurant and Cowshed spa.

Work continues on the existing clubs. In July, the Soho House Berlin Apartments (above) will launch with 20 full service units. Also in the works for 2013 is improvements to some of the London Houses. Visit sohohouse.com to learn more.
