In the last few days, reports have been circulating surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio's plans to open resort on his private island in Belize. Slated to open in 2018 on Blackadore Caye, his eco-conscious property will be in partnership with NYC-developer Delos.

Currently, it’s being called "Blackadore Caye, a Restorative Island,” which, according to the New York Times is in reference to impact it will have on the island and its visitors. The 104-acre area has been suffering from coastline erosions, overfishing and mangrove deforestations. Blackadore is expected to have 68 villas, infinity pools and special amenities, according to The Huffington Post. There will also reportedly be residences available for purchase ranging between $5 and $15 million each.

For the past ten years, DiCaprio has been searching for the right development partnership, which he now found with Restorative Islands L.L.C. (owned by Paul Scialla) and Restorative Hospitality, a division of Delos. “My goal was always the fact that I wanted to create something not just environmental, but restorative,” DiCaprio told the Times. “A showcase for what is possible.” To monitor the impact the development will have on the island, DiCaprio enlisted the help of a group of scientists to oversee the project.

“The idea at Blackadore Caye is to push the envelope for what sustainability means — moving the idea beyond environmental awareness into restoration,” Scialla told the New York Times. “We don’t want to just do less harm or even have zero impact, but to actually help heal the island, to make it better than before.”

We’re still a long ways away from being able to experience the resort and see its effects on its environment, but we’re eager to see if this project will in fact restore the suffering island. Also, the question remains, which celebs will be the first to experience the resort? Any bets on his castmates from The Beach?
