Enrique Olvera is without a doubt one of the best chefs in Mexico today, with his flagship restaurant Pujol ranked number 20 on the San Pellegrino list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. More recently, he opened an eatery in New York City's Flatiron District called Cosme that’s been getting rave reviews and has several other outposts across Mexico. Our favorite one is definitely Moxi, which is situated in the beautiful San Miguel de Allende city (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

The super stylish Moxi can be found at San Miguel’s Hotel Matilda, and according to the restaurant, it’s here where Olvera unites "traditional Mexican dishes with the latest techniques and cosmopolitan concepts, creating a menu with a Mexican soul and an international palate.” By organizing several special events throughout the year and hosting Supper Clubs (featuring famed guest chefs, original menus and wine pairings), Olvera has made Matilda a destination spot for gourmands all around the world. During your visit, prepare to be wowed by dishes like fried octopus tacos with morita chili oil, peanut, and creamy avocado; and braised short rib with chili guajillo and avocado leaf adobo style with purslane and bean purée. 

Not just a spot for foodies, Matilda has also established itself as a hotbed of avant-garde art. Texan-born Harold “Spook” Stream III, who developed and owns Hotel Matilda, has a world-class art collection and a number of amazing pieces grace the hotel’s public spaces.

This year marks the award-winning property’s fifth anniversary and they are celebrating with various art-themed events, including a Hotel Matilda Art Tour which offers guests and visitors the opportunity to see some of the best contemporary art in San Miguel.
