Interior designer Stephen Sills has been named the new Creative Director of The Apthorp. It’s a renowned, historic property on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, recently converted from rental to condominium ownership.

Sills has worked for such talented luminaries as Vera Wang and Anna Wintour. He is now lending his creative talents to selecting colors, finishes, appointments and cabinetry for The Apthorp’s public and private spaces, including the four distinctive lobbies and dramatic model residence.

“The grand and gracious style of the Apthorp is much like a classic Parisian apartment with its Old World proportions and intricate detailing not found anywhere else in New York,” says Sills. “It serves as an incredible canvas. My goal is to create an archetypal apartment where neoclassical and modern motifs combine into a contemporary and multifunctional home.”

Sills is celebrated around the world for his way of combining contemporary art with the architecture and history of a space, using a trademark muted color palette and an impressive eye for interesting objects.

In the past, Stephen Sills most celebrated projects have included the St. Regis Hotels in Washington, D.C. and New York, the Connaught Hotel in London and private residences in New York and California. He has been featured in numerous magazine publications, including Architectural Digest, Elle DĂ©cor, Vogue, W, New York Magazine, New York Times Magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar.
