Singita, the South African safari company known for its collection of eco-friendly luxury lodges, has added an alluring new property to its portfolio. Singita Castleton, located in the heart of the 45,000-acre Sabi Sand Game Reserve, was formerly the private home of company founder Luke Bailes’ grandfather. The chic retreat, which consists of a main house and six individual cottages, may only be booked on an exclusive-use basis.

Amenities include a swimming pool, wine cellar, gym, tennis court and spa. Rates start at approximately USD $7,200 per night for up to eight guests and includes all staff, use of a private open-topped Land Rover and a safari guide.

Designed to resemble a traditional African colonial farmhouse, Singita Castleton features a country-style kitchen with a private chef catering exclusively to guests. Richly furnished communal living and entertaining spaces overlook a watering hole favored by the local population of exotic animal life.

Though thoroughly contemporary, the lodge is steeped in history and the heritage of the original homeowner. Splashes of bold color, traditional tartans, classic prints, botanical art, comfortably elegant country furniture and flagstone floors contribute to a nostalgic, relaxed ambience. The Singita portfolio now includes 12 iconic, low-impact, luxury lodges and camps in five African destinations.
