VELUX Skylights: Premiere Natural Lighting Solution

For more than 60 years, VELUX has been inspiring homeowners to embrace natural light with a continually expanding line of skylight and roof window products designed to open and brighten the home.

Initially invented in 1941 by Villum Kann Rasmussen, a Danish engineer/architect, VELUX has become a leader in providing natural light solutions to both residential and commercial buildings. VELUX offers a luxe factor built right into the product's name: VE signifying ventilation and LUX being the Latin for light.

The company retains roots in Denmark, with headquarters in Høørsholm, north of Copenhagen, but has become a global company. Currently, VELUX manufacturing companies can be found in 11 countries and sales companies in just under 40 countries.

VELUX skylights and roof windows can help bring natural light into a wide variety of home applications, helping to brighten any room in the house, including the kitchen, bathroom, living room, sunroom, bonus room, home office, as well as outdoor spaces and other spaces as well. The company can also provide lighting solutions for homes with flat roofs as well as other products including decoration and sun screening, roller shutters, installation products, products for remote control and thermal solar panels for installation in roofs.

Skylights in a home are often thought of as a luxurious addition, adding to the aesthetic, whether it be contemporary or traditional, but skylights offer energy saving benefits as well?for which homeowners can get tax credits if they install a skylight or other energy saving VELUX product.

The success of VELUX isn't just based on the numerous luxury skylight offerings of the company. It is also based on a dedication to quality as well as the environment. In compliance with the founder's wish to ensure social responsibility, VELUX has created the Villum Kann Rasmussen Foundation in 1971 and the VELUX Foundation in 1981. Both foundations support scientific, cultural and social ventures, as well as research into daylight and activities for the elderly.

With a lengthy history and a dedication to quality, it is no wonder that over the years VELUX has accumulated a large list of awards, from countries around the world. In 2006, the VELUX® SUN TUNNEL skylight was selected as a product of the year by a well-known French website, www.batiproduits.com, aimed at professionals in the building trade. Other accolades have been awarded based on the environmental efforts of VELUX, including the 2005 ECO-TROPHEES BOIS awarded to VELUX at the Batimat exhibition in France in recognition of its environmental efforts in the production of wooden windows and the efforts to obtain environmental certification of the production process.

As a leader in providing environmentally and socially responsible lighting solutions to homes around the world, VELUX products have been featured in leading publications, including Allure, Architectural Digest, Bon Appetit, Canadian Home & Country, among many more.
