5 New York Restaurants with Distinctly Masculine Menus

New York City is known for its amazing restaurants, many of which locals can find right outside their doorstep. With so many to choose from, however, it can get a little tricky to pick the best spot for guy's night out. Thankfully, we went ahead and sought out the best establishments that will satisfy every type of gentleman. Along with hearty meals featuring steaks, no-frills menus and plenty of whiskey, these five NYC restaurants are some of the city's best spots for a manly meal:

Blue Smoke
Gourmet barbecue with a Southern flare is the name of the game at this Flatiron mainstay. And even better, the place can't be beat for live jazz. Hands down the manliest menu item is the 7 Pepper Rubbed Beef Brisket, by no means for the faint of heart. It's intense, but anything smoked that comes out of the kitchen will knock your socks off.

Peter Luger
This Brooklyn institution is the final word in masculine steakhouses steeped in history, as it's been serving hungry gents since 1887. Think dark wood walls, a massive bar and scarred beer hall-style tables; it originally housed a billiard parlor as well. The menu is fairly no frills: massive steaks of various cuts prepared in the classic tradition slathered in Luger's own steak sauce. Man food.

Strip House
The Strip House goes one better on the traditional steakhouse by upping the sexy quotient with its burlesque-themed décor. Even the name is a double entendre, though you won't actually see any exotic dancers, unless they're moonlighting as waitresses. Whatever you do, be sure to order the Crisp Goose Fat Potatoes.

Fish & Game
Just up the river in the town of Hudson, a quick trip at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo, is this super-cool farm-to-table eatery in a beautiful old brick building, with plenty of taxidermy on the walls. Wood Oven Roasted Oysters and Mule Foot Pork make a perfect manly meal in any season, and all the grub is locally sourced. Grab a cocktail by the fire before dinner.

The Breslin
Beef and Stilton Pie, Roasted Bass Head and Braised Lamb Shank are just some of the unapologetically manly dishes at this West 29th St. stalwart. No dieting allowed: even the boiled peanuts are fried in pork fat. This is gastropub fare done right, with an understated masculine décor to match. Bon appétit.
