Gres Porcelain: The Best Kept Secret in Fabulous Flooring

Bricklane Collection

Ceramiche Refin

Rich Italian marble, sleek hardwoods and exposed brick. Is it or isn’t it? Grès Porcelain floor tiles are the latest trend in luxury flooring that are making us second guess what’s under our feet and opening up the interior decorating options to endless possibilities in lavish design.

Ceramic tile flooring as one of the latest interior design trends, has seen a change in technology over the last ten years that has made it a more viable and appealing choice for home, restaurant and store owners and designers alike. A revolution in digital printing has allowed for ceramic tile designs that channel various different surfaces and textures, as well as capturing 3D effects, while maintaining a durable surface.

The wood-like intertwined patterns of the Baita collection by Ceramiche Refin, for example, give an Alpine feel to the home without falling prey to the wear and tear of normal hardwood floors that we so desperately swoon over for that cosy home effect. The inspiration for this collection was in fact to recall the different stages in the life cycle of the ever-evolving larch wood. The warm charm of wood floors is also evident in the Larix collection, also inspired by Larch wood. The reinterpretation of this material is intricately carried out in Larix, where the surface details and supposed effects of weather and nature are chronicled. This fabulous tile collection can be found sweeping the floors of the trendy bar areas like Tribeca Restaurant in Casablanca.

Ceramic tiles do a wonderful job in capturing other sleek surfaces, like the Artwork collection by Refin, with its imitation of Venetian plaster. Inspired by old techniques to achieve this centuries old material, the result is a collection with a sophisticated and minimalist style that gives a richly classic look with the easy cleaning and maintenance of a ceramic tile.

Digital advances have also made 3D visuals possible, and in fact, have taken interior decorating to a whole new level. These added dimensions in some cases have even caused the designs jump from the floor to the wall, as tiling is no longer restricted to just the pavement under our feet. Bricklane, for example, captures an urban vibe in this collection, focusing on brickwork that is inspired by an area in the East End of London. The result is a rugged underground look with a stylish and cultural twist.

Grès porcelain tiles are the up and coming choice for decorators alike for their versatility in design, ultra-resistant durability and easy maintenance. They are in fact the choice of retailers all over the globe, and can be found in many trendy, international locations. For example, the new tapas-style restaurant, Barsa Taberna in downtown Toronto features ceramic tiles, with a vibrant design to compliment the Gaudi theme. Or the world famous Eataly located in Chicago opted for charming Italian tiles as well to welcome its guests.
