London's Hippest Summer Nightspots

n/a

Other than the odd rainy day, summer has most definitely arrived in the capital and that means that nights out in London take on a whole new dimension – we all want to go out earlier, stay out later and party longer. Whether you’re looking for the most cutting edge cocktail spots, or the coolest hangouts offering the latest nightlife experiences, there are plenty of exciting options.

Oval Space in Bethnal Green describes itself as an ‘evolving multi use arts and events organisation’ and has so far proved itself to be one of the hippest London night spots for 2013, thanks to a varied events programme and super cool venue. From film showings, to a craft beer festival, hosting after parties for legendary events like Lovebox, and offering a music line up that spans underground, big name DJs and up and coming bands, Oval Space is an eclectic mix of cool. And that’s before you even take into consideration the huge terrace strung with lanterns and serving up BBQ fare and cocktails.

House of Wolf on Upper Street in Islington is a ‘multi functional, multi sensory pleasure palace dedicated to the creative pursuits of dining, drinking, art and entertainment’ situated in what was one of London’s earliest listed music halls. With pop up chef residencies, the experimental cocktails at the Apothecary Bar and a programme of everything from club nights, to cabaret and burlesque showcases this hot spot is one of the most exciting places to be in London of an evening for summer 2013.

Love & Liquor in Kilburn is a late night cocktail bar that brings the achingly hip Brooklyn, New York right to the heart of west London. With a hidden bar that is accessed through a wardrobe (if you can find it), a caged VIP area, an extensive cocktail list and a regular roster of supercool in-house DJs it’s the ideal combination of great drinks and being dark enough to dance. Love & Liquor also hosts some great events, such as the post Notting Hill Carnival ‘Carnival Special’ with a DJ set from actor Idris Elba, which will no doubt be the party to get to on August bank holiday weekend.

XOYO in Shoreditch has come a long way fast since it first opened its doors in 2010 and the 2012 relaunch has seen its popularity go stratospheric. Offering a live roster of bands and DJs covering virtually all genres and spectrums, the 800 capacity club is now viewed as one of London’s finest. Queues regularly snake right around the corner so this is one venue where it’s a good idea to buy tickets in advance.

Mahiki in Mayfair may not be cutting edge hip, but for a certain crowd of wealthy socialites and celebrities it remains the nightspot in which to enjoy an ostentatious cocktail and a bit of a boogie. Don’t expect underground DJs here, as that’s not the vibe, but do expect to be wowed by all the designer labels in the room and drinks like the Bikini Blast that comes in an atomic watermelon with a flaming shot.

Whatever type of ‘hip’ you’re looking for, London has it covered with a wide range of cocktail bars, clubs, and late night haunts to suit all sorts. Whether you’re looking for live music or just a lively drinks list you don’t have to go far to stumble over a cool summer nightspot in London.
