Technology is changing how we live. We see and feel it in almost every aspect of our lives, from the phones we carry to how we listen to music to the mattresses we sleep on. It's also changing the way we experience our gym experience and how we exercise. The way technology is revolutionizing how we exercise and get fit is a good thing that is helping people become more successful and get the most out of their experience.

“We welcome and embrace the technological advances that have been taking place," explains Jennifer Scherer, a registered dietitian nutritionist, medical exercise specialist, certified personal trainer, and owner of Fredericksburg Fitness Studio. “The tools allow us to help clients more effectively and enable them to see results in real-time."

Many people are using technology to help improve and learn about their fitness and health levels. Devices such as fitness watches and scales that measure body fat percentages are assisting people to learn about their bodies and gather insight about the changes they make due to their efforts. Gyms are also taking advantage of this surge in technology and are harnessing the power of the tools to help clients be more engaged and ensure their workouts are effective.

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio uses numerous technology tools to help level up its program and help people succeed. Some of the things they are using in their gym and that individuals are using to enhance their experience include:

·         Client records. Their record-keeping practices have gone digital to ensure they keep track of the client's needs through weekly progressions. This also allows the client to be able to easily receive past workouts as homework if they like a previous workout. It also provides for a seamless exchange if another trainer needs to sub.

·         Movement pattern evaluations. Gait analysis technology is now a part of their initiation assessments. They take a 5-minute video of the client walking from various viewpoints, utilize science-based research findings that determined the optimal range for trunk, hip, and knee movements through the various walking gait movements, and an analysis-based app to allow us to easily put angles on the video footage to be able to recommend areas of improvement. The areas they see need improvement most regularly are weakened gluteus medius and hip extension usage.

·         Fitness tracking. They use Myzone, which allows clients to easily track their heart rate, share their workout with friends, and compete with others. The program uses heart rate zones to determine MEPs and your medal status. This technology tracks effort, connects people, and provides real-time feedback.

·         Body composition measurement. Inbody is their compressive body composition machine that is used with each client. With this analysis, they are able to see how much body fat versus skeletal muscle a client has on their body to cater to the client's needs. For example, if the client wants to lose body fat and gain muscle, they create a program that suggests a higher protein diet with a workout program tailored towards lifting heavy weights to fatigue the muscle and increase muscular strength.

·         Fitness tracking devices. These wearable technology devices have become popular among people of all ages. They motivate people to reach goals, and they can track their efforts and get reports about the progress they make.

·         On-demand classes and support. Those who need support or classes and don't care to leave the house can get them on their phone or computer. This allows people to keep up with their fitnessgoals from home or on vacation.

“Technology has simplified the process of making getting healthy a personalized plan," added Scherer. "With these tools, we can tailor a program to meet each person where they are on their fitness journey and effectively help them move forward and reach new goals."

Fredericksburg Fitness Studio doesn't offer memberships like other gyms. Instead, it provides private, customized fitness programs that are available by appointment. Many people who go to the studio are referrals from physical therapists and doctors. The wellness professionals at the studio communicate with the medical teams to keep them up to date on patient progress. Their reformer Pilates fitness training program is a fun and unique exercise method with many benefits. The reformer can be done sitting, standing, or lying down, which gives a great workout. The program helps with strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, core control, and more. To learn more about Fredericksburg Fitness Studio, visit the site: https://www.fburgfitness.com.
